A Letter to My Younger Self: Wisdom, Growth, and Reinvesting in Dreams

If you had the opportunity to share what you know now, what would you tell your young self? How would that discussion change your life? Can you take those dreams as a kid and reinvest in yourself NOW? So, you can live intentionally.

We all carry lessons from our past—experiences that shaped us, mistakes that taught us, and dreams that once felt out of reach. But what if you could go back and guide your younger self with the wisdom you have today? How would that change your journey?

For me, that conversation would be filled with reassurance, tough love, and a reminder to embrace every moment. Here’s what I’d say:

Hey, Little Rodney… It’s All Going to Be Okay

You’re going to face challenges—some that feel impossible—but trust me, you’ll get through them. That frustration you feel when things don’t click right away? It’s not a weakness; it’s fuel. Your learning disability doesn’t define you—it empowers you to prove people wrong. When you’re angry or discouraged, pick up those flashcards. Study them like your future depends on it (because it does).

Learn how to drive. I know it’s scary, but that skill will open doors you can’t even imagine yet. Independence is everything.

And those happy moments you take for granted? Cherish them. Time moves faster than you think. Love your family and friends deeply, because people won’t always be here. Life is short, but it’s also beautiful—don’t miss it by focusing only on the struggles.

Oh, and one more thing: People change. Some will walk away, others will surprise you, and that’s okay. Stay true to yourself, keep learning, and always treat others with respect—even when they don’t deserve it.

Most importantly… I love you. You’re enough, just as you are.

Reinvesting in Yourself—Starting Now

Looking back, I realize how much my younger self needed to hear those words. But here’s the thing: it’s not too late to live by them.

  • That dream you buried? Dig it up.
  • That skill you thought you’d never learn? Start today.
  • The love and time you wish you’d given? Give it now.

We can’t change the past, but we can take those lessons and live intentionally—right now. Your Turn: What Would You Tell Your Younger Self?

If you had the chance, what wisdom would you share? How would it change the way you live today? Let’s talk in the comments.

Sometimes, the most powerful conversation is the one we have with ourselves. What’s yours?
